It looks like you've tried to put focus on the fungus centre. To create a better effect for this take the following into consideration:
- Smaller frame (less information around the focus). An image can look very crowded and a bit ugly when there's too much in it. If you want the focus on a particular subject, try to cut out other objects in view, either through different aspects on the camera or crop it out afterward.
- A deeper blur will help. This is achieved from zooming in from a greater distance, so that the "layers" in the image become farther away from each other (that sounds confusing, but when photographing a landscape, every detail is included, it becomes a flat image, thus all images are close together, but layers are separated when focussing on a close up, kind of like 3D)
- And lighting. It's pretty good in this photo and the image is crisp, but you can see the darkest white shadow along the right side of the fungus is quite dark and is a bit lost in the background. Attempts either manually or afterward in digital processing, should be made to try and lighten the focussed subject, and darken the background behind. Or vice versa, dark object, light background. That would make the subject a lot more distinct.
